About Family Photo
Beginnings
Family Photo opened in October, 1984, in a small space in Western Plaza Shopping Center, Amarillo, Texas. We had one camera room, two backgrounds and three chairs. We set up a self-sufficient, fast-service studio showing proofs in four hours and delivering affordable packages in two days. Such rapid service was unheard of at that time. We learned very fast that we needed many more backgrounds and props for the customers who came back to us several times a year.
Expansions
The Western Plaza store expanded four times before we opened other locations. In 1989 we opened Family Photo of Lubbock. The Amarillo store moved in 2002 into the six camera room 10,000 square foot building we now occupy. Lubbock moved and expanded to five camera rooms in the summer of 2001.
From Our Customer
When customers see our variety in props, poses and products, they think we are a large chain. A frequent compliment we get is this: many customers from as far away as South Dakota, Virginia, Colorado, and other states ask us to build a Family Photo where they live. A lot of these customers come to get their pictures made when they are "home" visiting with family. We have regular customers who live in Australia and Africa! That makes us feel pretty special that they come to us for portraits.
New Challenges
Digital technology has allowed us much more flexibility and creativity in the products we offer. We now offer Express Sittings that are ready in as little as three hours as well as our traditional sittings. We are able to make enhancements to our portraits in ways as varied as our customers requests. New products and composites are created regularly or can easily be made to the customer's specifications. Good quality, affordable prices and excellent customer service are still the main goals in everything we do.
